The special issue of the 13th Conference on Informatics in Education (CIE 2021) is published under the European Journal of Engineering and Technology Research (EJ-ENG). The Conference on Informatics in Education is co-organized by the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus and the Department of Informatics of Ionian University, Greece, in collaboration with the Greek Computer Society (GCS) and under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Education. This is the fifth consecutive year in which selected papers presented at the conference are published after a review in the journal. The published manuscripts are selected under a double peered review process among a significant number of manuscripts submitted to the conference.
The current special issue includes 9 papers related to informatics issues in education. More specifically, the issue includes three papers concerning computer programming issues in education, a paper that deals with digital serious games in education. In addition, four papers study distance education issues in the period of the pandemic and a paper that deals with microcontroller systems in Education.
A significant number of papers have already been applied in academic and school practice and can therefore be helpful to the educational community. In addition, the papers have the necessary theoretical background to be used as a reference in future research, aimed at the integration of informatics in education.
